Welcome to Stereoscopic Microscopy
Welcome to the exciting science topic of Stereoscopic Microscopy. On this website, we describe what a stereo microscope is, how it is used, and typical applications for it. We also provide a wide selection of stereoscopic microscopy equipment for sale that will meet your demanding needs.
First, a stereo microscope is a low power magnification imaging system. It differs from the high power compound light microscopes that are used for viewing biological slides under magnification levels that go up to 1000x. The low power stereo microscope is useful for viewing and inspecting welds, solder joints, engraving, soldering, surface mount device work, quality control of small parts, insects, coins, as well as most any other small item that is difficult to see with the unaided eye.
A stereoscopic microscope may be either mounted on an upright lighted base or be put on a boom stand for flexibility and maximum utilization of the working area. Different types of boom stands exist for various applications. A normal lighted base has an upper reflected light and a lower transmitted light. Both are useful for a variety of specimens. A true stereo microscope has two independent eyepaths to the specimen, allowing for depth perception and a three dimensional effect similar to the natural viewing of a pair of human eyes. A compound microscope simply has a beam splitter prism to split a single image into two identical images.
The stereoscopic microscope has two independent objectives, located at two separate locations, to pick up the microscopic image, therefore each image will be slightly different as in natural viewing. If you have a need for a low power magnification system, please contact us today so our microscopists can recommend the best stereoscopic microscopy equipment for your demanding application.
